Description

The Jungle's heating up
GUNSLINGER VIETNAM PATREON/TRIBES: NOVEMBER
Regional Forces and Popular Forces (RF/PF commonly referred to as Ruff Puffs) formed the Republic of Vietnam’s local security network in the early stages of the war. RF units operated at the district level, while PF platoons guarded villages and hamlets. Often under-trained and lightly equipped, they depended on local knowledge and static defense rather than mobility or firepower. To improve effectiveness, ARVN liaison officers and small U.S. advisory teams were attached to many RF/PF elements, providing training, planning assistance, and limited operational guidance. These advisors strengthened discipline, radio use, and coordination with regular ARVN units, though results varied by region. Despite vulnerabilities to intimidation, infiltration, and coordinated VC attacks, RF/PF forces remained the first line of defense and a critical source of local intelligence.
This release comprises one American Special Forces Advisor, two South Vietnamese ARVN support liaison officers and an eight man RF/PF villager militia defense element.
