Panzer Iii Ausf J/j1 German Medium Tank - 1/72 Scale

Model Description:
This download contains highly detailed models of mid-production Panzer III AusF J and J1 variants, featuring two versions of the 5cm cannon, the L/42 and L/60, alongside other detail changes. Notably the rear of the vehicle has been redone as well as changes having been made to the turret shape and the bow machinegun mounting. Documentation and references for the real vehicle were rigorously studied to make the model as geometrically accurate as possible, except in the cases where printability would have to be sacrificed (such as the fender thickness).

Historical Description:
The Panzer III was originally designed as the primary German battle tank, meant to engage with the opposition's armored units directly. This role was rapidly usurped by the Panzer IV, originally an infantry support tank. The earlier models (A-G) featured the 3,7cm KwK 36 L/45 anti-tank gun. As time went on the vehicle was progressively upgraded with increased armoring and firepower.
 
The Panzer III AusF J1 (or Panzer III 'Special') was the first version of the vehicle to mount the new long barreled 50mm L/60 cannon. The AusF J was a departure from earlier Panzer III designs, with the rear plate being increased to 50mm of armor, as with the front. Furthermore, the turret was simplified for ease of production. The vehicle still featured the same 6-road wheel/side torsion bar suspension that was present on the Panzer III AusF E onwards.

In Armored Advance:
In armored advance the Panzer III AusF J provides a more armored Panzer III variant that is fairly mobile and has some survivability in the form of health points. The armor is not wonderful but can stop smaller weaponry at range. Its short 50mm cannon is insufficient for dealing its' opponent's more heavily armored units; however, it can see success combating lighter vehicles. The Panzer III AusF J1 is almost identical, however the gun is longer and has more piercing power than the regular J, making it more effective as a cheap support vehicle that is able to skirmish with other light units successfully. When positioned against more advanced vehicles however, it will be less efficient, with health depleting rapidly and its' firepower being unable to do much, if any damage to the opposition.
