Description
Cameroceras trentonense was a giant orthoconic cephalopod that lived during the Ordovician period, around 460 million years ago.
It belonged to the extinct order Endocerida and was one of the largest known marine predators of its time, with estimates suggesting it reached lengths of up to 6 meters or more.
Its long, conical shell provided buoyancy, while its tentacles allowed it to capture prey such as trilobites and smaller cephalopods.
Fossils of Cameroceras trentonense have been found in North America, particularly in the Trenton Group rock formations.
