Description
Bramatherium perimense was a large, prehistoric giraffid that lived during the Miocene in the Indian subcontinent.
Unlike modern giraffes, it had a shorter neck and a more robust, heavyset body, resembling the okapi but on a much larger scale.
Its most distinctive features were the four ossicones—horn-like bony structures—on its head, which may have been used for display or combat.
Fossil evidence suggests it thrived in woodland and savanna environments, feeding on leaves, twigs, and possibly fruits.
As part of the diverse giraffid lineage, Bramatherium highlights the evolutionary experimentation within the group before the rise of today’s giraffe.
